We are proud of our past and appreciative of the solid foundation this company sits upon today. The journey from a single grocery store established in 1917 to one of the nation’s largest and most diversified 100% employee-owned companies has surely been an interesting one. We have seen recessions, depressions, natural disasters, civil unrest, etc., yet we have come out stronger for having weathered them all.
We continue to be successful because of the contributions of our talented employee-owners. We have a culture that encourages them to behave as the owners they are. Our decentralized approach to managing our many subsidiaries only further encourages this behavior. It is this approach that also leads to the development of strong, independent leaders.
